The National Revenue Authority (NRA) acknowledges a recent Public Notice titled Parliamentary Summons for Defaulting Taxpayers on Outstanding Revenue Arrears to the Government of Sierra Leone.
The notice was issued out by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Parliament.
It published the names of about 120 taxpayers flagged for outstanding tax liabilities for 2024 and invited them to a meeting in Parliament scheduled for Wednesday, April 30th, 2025.
In addition, the NRA Technical Team was invited by the same public notice to attend the meeting.
As the lead government custodian of taxpayer information and data, NRA says it should be noted that no formal or bilateral communication was done by the PAC to the NRA on the updated status of the taxpayers listed.
As a result, during the meeting, it was discovered that majority of the taxpayers present submitted proof of meeting their obligations subsequent to end of 2024.
As a matter of law and practice, NRA says often submits the list of taxpayers in arrears to the Accountant General in the Ministry of Finance at the end of every financial year in readiness for the annual financial statement and audit.
For the financial year in question (2024), this information was submitted to the appropriate government entity, it said.
While the NRA is cognisant of the Parliament’s oversight responsibility, specifically the PAC, the tax revenue collector says it would like to encourage government institutions that coordination and communication should always be considered when dealing with taxpayers and main clientele in domestic revenue mobilization.
The NRA says it remains committed to meeting transparency and professionalism standards and will always ensure responsible stakeholders’ engagement is met.
As a key element of the NRA’s mission, taxpayers who continue to demonstrate compliance and support national revenue mobilization efforts are appreciated and recognized for their contributions.
Taxpayers are encouraged to contact the NRA at the WAMA Building or visit the nearest office nationwide for clarifications.
