The National Youth Congress of the All People’s Congress (APC) on Wednesday, 21ST May, 2025, officially unveiled their new costumes ahead of their much anticipated 2025 National Youth Congress that is set to take place in Bo. The unveiling ceremony, held at the APC national headquarters in Freetown, marks a significant step in preparations for the three day national event scheduled to take place at the Gallasis Hotel Conference Hall in Bo city, Southern Region.
Addressing attendees during the event, Abdul Karim Sankoh, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the APC Youth Congress, described the unveiling as a symbolic gesture of unity and readiness of the APC to bounce back to power. He noted that the upcoming congress is aimed at mobilizing young, visionary members of the party to strategize for the APC’s political resurgence in the coming elections.
“The Congress will bring together young people who share the same vision for progress those determined to see the APC return to leadership and restore hope to the people of Sierra Leone,” Sankoh said.
Ibrahim Bai Tarawally, Secretary General of the APC Youth Congress, emphasized the importance of empowering young people to resist political manipulation. He expressed concern over the vulnerability of youth in past election cycles, where they were often exploited to instigate violence by political leaders.
“This Congress will address how APC youths can become more impactful and resist being used as tools for unrest and social media attacks,” Tarawally stated.
He pointed out that their role is to educate and sensitize their members of their responsibilities and the importance of peaceful participation during elections.
Tarawally further cited Article 28 of the APC Constitution, which empowers the Youth Congress to organize and implement guidelines during national congresses. He urged all APC youths across the country to actively participate in the upcoming gathering, which he described as a turning point for youth involvement in national development.
Ansu Bannard, president and leader of the APC Youth Congress, delivered the keynote statement. He acknowledged the nearly ten years hiatus since the last youth congress, attributing the delay to a court injunction in 2022 that halted party activities at the time.
“With those legal issues now behind us, the time is ripe to organize and rally the youth base of the mighty APC. We must unite and work towards reclaiming State House for the betterment of our country,” Bannard declared.
He assured that all necessary arrangements, including police clearance from the Inspector General of Police, have been secured to ensure a safe and successful congress.
“This event will bridge the gap among youth and galvanize efforts to strengthen our party’s chances in the upcoming elections. Therefore, we cannot afford another five years of suffering under the current SLPP administration,” he added.
