The opposition member of parliament (MP) who is representing Falaba District, Hon. Mohamed Alpha Jalloh, has expressed his opinion that the Electoral Commission’s boss, Mohamed Konowuei Konneh, is ‘Konnematics’, rather than mathematics.
He described ECSL’s boss in respect of the tallying and collation process of the June 24, 2023.
Hon. Jalloh made this statement on Thursday 23rd May 2024 in the House of Parliament while debating on the approval and endorsement of three presidential nominees.
The three nominees were Hon. Manso Dumbuya, ACC’s Deputy Commissioner Augustine Foday Ngobie and the National Electoral Commissioner for Southern Regional, Edmond Sylvester Alpha.
Hon. Jalloh confirmed that there was inconsistent in tallying and collating the 2023 multi-tier elections.
He said result was stolen from the opposition party.
He was interjected and overruled by the Speaker of the House of Parliament, Hon. Sengepoh Solomon Thomas, but he insisted on making his point that theJune 2023 elections’ results were stolen, but couldn’t identify the one who steals the results.
On a separate development, the Chief Whip of the opposition party, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara made mention of president Bio’s statement making the rounds on the social media saying “Bullet for Bullet”. He said that such a statement might lead a country to genocide.
He said the country is at a critical stage and advised that Sierra Leone Police personnel to be ready to react at any time they are called upon to settle a fracas.
The ruling MPs including the Speaker of the House of Parliament, Hon. Sengepoh Solomon Thomas overruled the Chief Whip and was disallowed to make any further comments.
The Acting Leader of the opposition party, Hon. Daniel Brima Koroma urged the Speaker, Hon. Sengepoh Solomon Thomas to allow opposition MPs to express their views in the Well.
The Leader of Government Business Hon. Sahr Mathew Nyuma, in response, told MPs that they are not in the Well to discuss 2023 elections but rather they are there to approve and endorse the presidential nominees.
He said the nominees’ approval have nothing to do with the concluded 2023 general elections.
Hon. Nyuma made reference to Christian Thorpe when she had announced the 2012 elections and asked the SLPP presidential candidate then, Julius Maada Bio now President to go to the police.
Hon. Nyuma asked the opposition party to go to the Supreme Court that is if they are not satisfied with the June 2023’s election outcome.
