The Wise Bird has long been waiting for this day when the Minister of Trade Mr. Ibrahim Sesay will face the Honorable House of Parliament because of weakness of the trade ministry to perform to the expectations of the public; thanks to God the day is here.
According to information reaching the Wise Bird is that, the Minister of Trade had repeatedly failed to attend Parliamentary Committee hearings and from all indications by failing to attend Committee hearings a summoned is tantamount to contempt of Parliament and by extension an insult to the Honorable House.
The Minister should know that, Parliament is one of the three Arms of government and it deserves all the respect.
Information is that, the Minister has been given excuses day-in-day-out, and this time if the Minister fails to attend this session upon invitation, legal consequences will be tied over his head.
The question is why is the Minister always afraid to attend Parliamentary Committee hearings?
The Wise Bird has noticed that, in Sierra Leone today it seems as if there is no Ministry of Trade in the country because everybody is just doing things at will.
In the Ministry, trade monitors and inspectors only exist on paper and they receive salaries at the end of every month at the detriment of the nation.
The Wise Bird has once opined that some Ministers in President Bio’s government are square pegs in round holes, and they are arm-chair Ministers doing nothing.
They would receive big salaries, big allowances, get free fuel and a lot of other facilities for doing sweet nothing.
The Wise Bird will now monitor the Ministries and their Ministers, and people might say the Wise Bird is not the Chief Minister.
In fact the Chief Minister will be happy to have someone to assist him.
If the Wise Bird is to rate the Minister’s performance it is between 15% and 20%, and since Mr. Sesay was appointed in the Ministry little or no improvement has taken place in the Ministry.
Traders all over the country would have a field-day, meaning they can sell everywhere as they like,
nobody cautions them, every day in the market there are new prices tied on things. So it is but fitting that, the Minister explains to Members of the Committee on Trade as to what is the present situation in the country in relation to the sale and shortage of essential goods in the country.
Bravo Committee on Trade in Parliament.
Some Ministers should face Parliament for better explanation to the people.
The bird only hopes that other Committees will do the same.
