The Chairman of Karene District Council, Abdul Kandeh Turay, has on Tuesday 9th April 2924, joined the Council and District Health Management Team (DHMT) to witness the handing over ceremony of cost recovery drugs valued at some millions of Leones to Peripheral Health Units (PHUs) in the district.
The Council and DHMT collaborated to buy these essential drugs due to the limited availability of the specified drugs that were not initially included in the Free Health Care drugs that were supplied to the district.
The Free Health Care drugs cater for pregnant women, lactating mothers and children under-fives.
Proceeds from the sale of these drugs will be deposited into the DHMT bank account and later will be used to buy additional drugs for distribution to the Community Health Centers in the district, especially those that did not receive during the first supply.
The initiative aims to complement the efforts of government to making sure that nobody dies due to lack of drugs.
Handing over the drugs to health workers at a ceremony, the Council Chairman emphasized the need for them to continue to exhibit transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
He called on them to use the drugs for it intended purposes to ensure it reaches the targeted beneficiaries.
He pointed out that proper supervision and monitoring measures will be put in place to ensure that the drugs are used appropriately and judiciously.
He urged the Officer-In-Charge of the Pharmacy to provide a distribution matrix for the drugs to facilitate follow-ups.
Mr. Turay admonished all workers to handle the drugs with care and that they must put appropriate procedures in place for their sale.
He warned that anyone found guilty of misusing the drugs would be held responsible and will face the severe consequences.
