The Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Austin Demby, has said during a week government press conference, that there are ongoing discussions around doctors planned strike.
He informed the public that the Ministry has engaged the doctors, assuring them that their fuel allocations will be provided. He called on the doctors to prioritize compassion for the public and reconsider their strike plans.
Minister Demby noted that the government had already paid for the first two quarters of 2024, with only the third and fourth quarters remaining.
He further highlighted that the annual fuel allocation for doctors stands at approximately NLE 31 million and assured that efforts are underway to meet the outstanding commitments.
The Minister commended the doctors for their sacrifices and expressed hope that after discussions with the Medical and Dental Association, doctors would continue serving the nation.
In another development, the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Nabeela Tunis has proudly announced that Sierra Leone will host the Women in Tourism Regional Congress for the first time.
The event will take place at the Freetown International Conference Center from 29th to 31st October 2024.
This landmark Congress will bring together over 600 women from Sierra Leone and across Africa to discuss their roles in advancing tourism in the region.
Organized in collaboration with the UN World Tourism Organization, the Congress aims to develop an action plan for submission to the African Union for implementation by member states.
Minister Tunis highlighted that Sierra Leone saw a 22% increase in visitors in 2024, a result of several international conferences which are recently hosted in the country.
