Oh Salone, as long as you are not dead you will never stop seeing wonders happening in this little kingdom.
The oldest animal in this republic has for very long observed that government, organizations or individual people have continued to do things they like without the least consideration of how others feel.
This situation has just brought the attention of the wise bird to the numerous laws government particularly has promulgated, policies it has formulated and significant operations it has continue to launch. But the truth remains some set of people always benefit while others bear the brunt.
The patriotic bird views this situation as bias, given that everybody in this kingdom should have equal right and justice devoid of any affiliation.
To be honest, Bra Parrot’s attention has been drawn to series of things happening in this country under the watchful eyes of both present and past governments which to him are not fair at all, considering the fact that some citizens are advantaged with impunity.
There is a saying that, after GOD in every country is the sitting government who is charged with the responsibility to treat its citizens fairly with fear or favour.
But from the look of things, government after government has not been able to do this for obvious reasons including but not limited to denying the rights of opponents whilst providing the best for its members.
Everything has virtually been politicized with every ruling regime providing good jobs for its members, bend justice in their favour and fight traders perceived being opposition supporters.
But Bra Parrot believes without question that what is good for John, must also be good for Mary.
In that regard, the nationalistic animal believes if the government is forcing the Okada riders out of the Central Business District (CBD), the same law will also apply to traders from the streets of Freetown in totality without bias for sanity to return to the heart of the capital. But like the old Parrot used to say, this is Sierra Leone!
To the patient bird, the fight against street trading and okada will never end it doesn’t matter which party is in power as long as it’s done in favour of one set against the other.
For instance the erection of double railings to prevent traders from displaying their wares should not be done to prevent or relocate perceived opposition members.
The brave bird is of the view that both the traders and the Okada riders are rendering national service to the people so; they must have equal treatment in all respect.
This brings to mind this issue of delayed commissioning of the “SEWA GROUND” market even though the project is said to have been long completed.
To others, it may be surprising, but to the oldest creature in this kingdom who is au-fait with every development Bra Parrot is not surprised at all, at all.
He believes some people want to play yuki, yuki so that their own people will benefit directly whiles others perceived as opposition traders will be left out. That is really unfair, to say the least.
This is more the reason the traders are very much adamant to leave the streets, because they know the past as well as present governments are playing politics with the SEWA GROUND project. And this situation will continue because suspicion of bias behaviour keeps growing on daily basis.
The bird as usual went out to have the views of people as he doesn’t wants the general public to feel that, the most respected animal is bias too.
Most of the people the bird contacted expressed similar sentiments on the issue by stressing the bias nature of government. They claimed that if government is indeed serious and fair about removing okada riders from the streets, same rule is expected to be applied to traders, vice-versa.
But in the absence of fair play, they believe government is squarely responsible for both street trading and okada riding in prohibited areas at the heart of the city, insisting everything in Sierra Leone today has been politicized.
