A married couple by the name of Mamadu Talibeh Bah and Ramata Williams are currently wanted by some cultural authorities in the Northern part of the country for them to complete their secret initiation ceremonies into the female Bondo society and male Poro society respectively.
The husband and wife reportedly left the country sometimes from 2021 to 2022 but they started the cultural initiation ceremony between December 2017 and March 2018.
Some of the cultural authorities told this press that the husband and wife must be caught under any circumstances to complete their initiation ceremony because they have already started some of the cultural processes within the Poro and bondo society.
Despite the harm caused by FGM, the government of Sierra Leone is failing to criminalize the practice as it is reportedly harmful to most female.
The harmful practice is currently responsible for the death of many young female across the country and is also a cause for illegal migration of many women across the country.
If not criminalize, FGM will be responsible for the increase in maternal mortality and also rise in complications among women.
However, according to the traditional and cultural authorities, the missing husband Mamadu Talibeh Bah and his wife Ramata Williams should report to them or they will face the full force of the traditional leaders when they are caught.
The whereabouts of the husband and wife is still not known until press time.
