The most respected and uncompromising animal has been getting series of calls from the public asking whether it is true that the 1991 Constitution is currently under review?

The Wise Bird cannot give any answer to the question asked by the people.

The people are asking in respect of the review of the 1991 constitution.

The bird also is in doubt as to why is it that the National Constitution should be reviewed in secret if at all it is under review.

The Wise Bird is of the view that, before the formation of the committee/panel to review the Constitution, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education should have made a publicity or wider  coverage to educate the masses, so that, the people will make their own inputs into the review process.

The bird had tried to contact the Attorney General and Minister of Justice who is the government Chief Adviser to get his opinion on the issue, but all to no avail.

The Wise Bird will not make known the cell phone number of the Minister public fearing for security reasons.

The review of the National Constitution should not be in secret, it should be in the open to the public to making sure that Political parties, Civil Societies have their inputs into the process.

The bird is still not comfortable with the information as it was and still considered as rumours told to the bird.

Such rumours have no base at the moment but if the information is anything to hold with two hands, the question is how was the committee selected/appointed?

The fact of the matter is, if there is any review of the country’s Bible/Quran known to be the Constitution all political parties must know this for purposes of transparency in the political system.

As the bird does not want to monopolize everything, he went out to the people to get their views whether they are aware of the review process that is going on.

About 95% of the people the bird contacted are not aware of the review, even some party members in the SLPP find it very difficult to believe that the review was happening that is when the bird contacted them.

The bird tried to contact the National Secretary of the Main Opposition (APC) party to get his views whether the party is aware or not but he couldn’t be reached.

One senior citizen who gave his name to the wise bird as Mr. James Thomas Vandi said to review a National Constitution should not be a secret process as he himself is not aware of the review if at all it is ongoing, he said.

The bird made all efforts to get to speak to senior government officials but all to no avail; it seems as if only the committee knows that they are reviewing an important document like the National constitution in secret.

Anyway, the bird will continue to findout whether it is true that the reviewing process is on or not.
