For years now the most respected animal has been observing that, almost all monetary transactions in the country are done in foreign currency, particularly with the Almighty American Dollar.

The dollar has taken a center stage in everything in the country, land-lords, land-ladies, shop owners are asking for dollars for house rents.

If you are using a speed boat to Lungi the owner of the boat will demand to be paid in dollars, at the shops shop owners will ask for dollars for any transaction done, the list continues.

It goes without saying that, this is more the reason the Leone which is the legal tender has become more and more useless on a daily basis to the disadvantage of the country and the people.

Our economists and by extension financial experts at the Bank of Sierra Leone have all failed the people of this country by way of giving poor advise, and their poor implementation of things.

The Bank of Sierra Leone should be in the position to find ways for traders not to be discourage not to put the dollar above the Leone.

The dollar which is a foreign currency is mostly respected in the country more than the legal tender which is the Leone.

Governments after governments are all guilty of what we have found ourselves today, the government always would drag its feet on the dollar issue whenever its discussion to shorten it down comes up in public.

This is because most of the big guys in the country do not use the Leone for whatever transaction they carry out, they prefer to use the dollar.

The point is if we as Sierra Leoneans don’t have respect for our currency then who will have respect for it?

The Wise Bird will not even hesitate to say that the Leone has little or no respect in the country these days, let alone in the outside world and to even our sister countries, our legal tender has no respect for there.

The bird can also say in clear terms that, the Leone is only used by the poor people, but the big guys don’t have value for it such as the Ministers, Directors, Permanent Secretaries deals in dollars- the Leone is of no use to them.

The Wise Bird as usual will go out to get the views of people on issues of national interest.

All those the bird came in contact with expressed the same sentiments as others that, the Leone is of no value, useless in the market in all transactions one million Leone can only buy hand full of something they said.

In Sierra Leone today even the dead, unborn child will be asking for dollars when doing any business transaction.

Some people were even asking the bird if the dollar is now Sierra Leone’s legal tender.

The Wise Bird will put the blame squarely on our economists and the bank of Sierra Leone in respect of the mess the people find themselves today.
