The Presidential Initiative on Climate, Renewable Energy & Food, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, has warned former Ambassador to Guinea, Alimamy Bangura, to stay off meddling in governance until he clears his name on what he referred to as his ‘serious drugs allegations.’
KKY has also informed the people of Kambia district that Mr. Alimany Bangura is no longer in government and doesn’t hold any official position.
In his video message doing the rounds on social media, KKY told his fellow citizens in Kambia District, that many of them are aware of his role in this government and his commitment to the district Kambia in general. “Today, I bring forward a matter of concern: I’ve received credible information that the former Ambassador to Guinea, Alimamy Bangura is going around Kambia, interfering in governance matters,” the former NGC leader added, stressing that Mr. Alimamy currently holds no official position in the government of Sierra Leone. He said the former envoy is both locally and internationally investigated for serious criminal allegations. He said as a senior stakeholder in Kambia, and a senior government official, and adviser to H.E. the President, he urged the people to be cautious.
The former UNIDO Director affirmed that “Mr. Alimamy Bangura must step aside from all political or governance-related activities until he clears his name.”
He insisted that Mr. Bangura should be seeking God’s mercy this Lent—not pretending to wield authority, emphasizing that if he persists, the government will have no choice but to act tough against him.
The former Ambassador was accused of indulging in drug related offences for which he was asked to step aside by the president.
It could be recalled that the government of Sierra Leone has recalled its Ambassador to Guinea, Alimamy Bangura, to Freetown following the seizure of an Embassy vehicle and the arrest of its occupants by Guinean authorities.
The incident, which occurred on January 13, 2025, involved the seizure of a vehicle belonging to the Sierra Leone Embassy in Conakry by the Guinean authorities.
The driver and another occupant of the vehicle were subsequently detained on suspicion of possessing substances believed to be cocaine.
In response to this serious development, the government of Sierra Leone has launched a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to hold all responsible parties accountable.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has issued a statement confirming the recall of Ambassador Bangura and emphasizing the government’s commitment to cooperating with Guinean authorities to ascertain the facts of the matter.
The statement underscores the gravity of the situation and reiterates the government’s unwavering stance against drug trafficking. It affirms that anyone found guilty of violating Sierra Leonean and international drug trafficking laws will face the full force of the law.
The incident has raised significant concerns and prompted a swift response from the Sierra Leonean government. The recall of Ambassador Bangura demonstrates the government’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its diplomatic missions and ensuring the safety and security of its diplomatic personnel.
