The Sierra Leone lawmakers in the Information and Communication Committee have lavished praises on Africell mobile company.
The Committee was headed up by Hon Boston Munda and he including other MPs praised Africell on Wednesday 24 April 2024.
This came after the officials of the Africell company had explained their status reports and the hard work they have been doing especially by fulfilling their Corporate Social Responsibility to government and the people of Sierra Leone.
The lawmakers have also given testimonies on the landmark of Africell and how the company has worked assiduously in partnership with the government to promote its subscribers in terms of network sustainability.
“Africell is everywhere in Sierra Leone. Your presence is well felt all over the country. In terms of CSR the company is doing extremely well,” one of the MPs said.
Making his submissions, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Boston Munda said the purpose of summoning Africell is to acquaint with the activities of the company as well as to know their challenges and progress in the network system.
He said MPs are bestowed with the powers to look into activities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) including the companies that are operating in the country.
He said the Committee is also charged with the responsibility to advocate for those MDAs that needed government intervention.
The Hon Boston Munda thanked the company for its selfless effort for the mobile network accessibility in the country.
The Chairman therefore urged Africell to do more especially during the rainy season where mobile network access is a challenge.
In her submissions, one of the Female Committee Member said, she is proud of Africell for their endless CSR, employment and operations across Sierra Leone.
He further alludes of the company’s intention to build a three classroom school building in her constituency which she demanded the company to be of help as part of their CSR.
“We want the company to continue to adhere to the Gender Policy in the country and accommodate more women,” she said.
Moreover, the Chief Executive Officer of Africell said Africell is a company to emulate in terms of good service delivery to its subscribers.
He said the company has a track record of providing affordable, accessibility and good network in the country.
He explained about the status of the company and their challenges including the interruptions on their network in some parts of the country.
He assured lawmakers of being proficient and resilient in making the lives of Sierra Leoneans comfortable in the areas of mobile communication and CSR.
The CEO said his team of engineers is in the provinces to ensuring that during the rainy season no problem occurs.
“We are a company to be reckoned with and we are all over Sierra Leone along with our valued customers,” he ended.
MPs in the Committee were very pleased with the status report of the company and urged the company to do more and continue with their active delivery of their deliverables.
