The most respected, patriotic and uncompromising animal has been following the activities and statements made by government officials within the SLPP in respect of what they have done and or what they intend to do.
There are certain people within the government circle, who when they speak, it is the President that speaks and their statements must be taken with the utmost seriousness it deserves.
The Wise Bird could vividly recalled that, President Bio was vigorously campaigning in the 2018 on the pretext of constructing a Bridge between Freetown and Lungi to ease the problem of traveling on the seas, which according to him (President Bio) is a very risky affair.
The Wise Bird can also say without hesitation that, after all the statements and jubilation about the construction of the Bridge, SLPP party supporters prepared T-shirts and arsorbi (attires) to welcome the launch of the Bridge.
On the 6th August 2024 at the Administrative Building in Parliament, the Presidential spokesperson Hon. Alhaji Alpha Kanu told Journalists that, the Lungi Bridge was and still not part of President Bio’s agenda.
Apha Kanu went further to say that, government had discussed with the investors in respect of the Lungi Bridge construction, but looking at the number of vehicles plying from Lungi to Freetown they are very minimal and so government cannot invest such a huge sum of money amounting to $2 billion to construct a Bridge .
The Wise Bird was in deep shame and surprise to see one of the leading and most respected newspapers in the country carried an article dated 6th September, 2024 with a banner headline captioned “LUNGI BRIDGE READY FOR CONSTRUCTION”.
According to what the Wise Bird reads from the article, that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed in Freetown for the construction of the Bridge-it is unbelievable though.
The Bird noticed from the article that, the Lungi Bridge will be 8km long, with an estimated investment costing about $1.5billion.
The project according to the article is part of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio vision, a project the Presidential Spokesperson said was not part of President Bio’s agenda, so the President, the Presidential Spokesperson and the newspaper who is saying what?
From all indications, this is a clear show of inconsistence on the side of the SLPP government.
The Wise Bird will love to see the construction of these much-talked about Bridge.
From now, the bird will be monitoring when the contractors will arrive and start of the construction from scratch to finish.
