Assen ACV midfielder, Ibrahim Sillah, who made his Sierra Leone debut against Togo on 24 March, 2022 in an international friendly in Turkey, has been speaking out about the recent international call-up.
His success comes despite his home side, Leone stars, had failed to qualify for 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
He was named in Coach Amidu Karim’s squad for international matches in the 1-1 draw against Benin and the 2-0 triumph of Somalia in Morocco earlier last month.
Sillah had won five caps with Sierra Leone, and was pleased with his performance.
“Eight million people are living in Sierra Leone. Of these, twenty five players have been selected for the national football team during the FIFA calendar in October,” he said.
“I am one of them. I am proud of that. I dreamed of this as a child but never expected to achieve this, my parents would have been proud of me, but they’re gone.”
Since his return to the Dutch side, Sillah, 28, has been pivotal in making eight appearances in his club campaign.
The midfielder was impressed enough to be selected for the World cup qualifying matches against Ethiopia and Egypt on November 15 and 19, respectively.
The Leone Stars’ journey to qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the USA, Mexico and Canada will bring Sillah more progress if he was called again in the squad campaign.
