China’s 24th Medical Team has provided free medical services to residents of Pepel Community and employees of Leone Rock Metal Group of Sierra Leone.
In a significant healthcare initiative, the 24th Chinese Medical Team, have commenced their mission in Sierra Leone, starting to offering essential medical services free of charge to both employees of Leone Rock Metal Group and residents of Pepel community.
On December 21st, 2023, the medical team, comprising some skilled healthcare professionals, have set up a base in the country to provide comprehensive medical care to Leone Rockers workers and poor people.
Their primary focus is on ensuring the alertness or well-being of the employees at Leone Rock Metal Group, and as well as extending their services to the broader Pepel community of people.
These services encompass routine check-ups, malaria tests, blood pressure assessments, gynaecological care and a robust emergency response system.
The team head, Chen Yongjun, says the initiative aims to enhance overall health and safety standards at the Leone Rock Railway and Port site, thereby fostering a favourable environment for both workers on sites and residents at homes in the operational communities
It is believed that the collaborative effort reflects the on-going commitment of the Chinese Medical Team to promote global health and well-being among people in deprived communities.
The provision of free medical services has not only benefitted employees and operational communities but the effort has also aligned China’s medic group broader goals of ensuring to achieve the health and vitality of the local population.
In response to this collaboration, the Community and Security Manager, Leone Rock Metal Group; Alhaji Turay, expressed gratitude and emphasized the positive impact that the kind gesture will have on the community.

The 24th Batch Chinese Medical Team’s mission is to help workers of Leone Rock Metal Group and this dream is a testament to the enduring partnership enjoyed between China and Sierra Leone, by emphasizing the positive impact that international collaboration can have on local communities. As the medical team continues its work in the mining community, its corporate social activities and philanthropic gestures are expected to leave lasting and positive imprints on people, on the health landscape of Leone Rock Metal Group and Pepel community.
