Ibrahim Kamara 21, unemployed, made another appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 on Wednesday 14th May, 2025, on two count charges of office breaking and larceny contrary to section 26 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916 and malicious damage contrary to section 51 of the Malicious Damage Act 1861.
According to the particulars of offence the accused on Saturday 1st February, 2025 at No4c Tengbeh Town in the western area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, with intent to steal broke and entered into the office of Defence for Children’s International and stole therein one black colour Lenovo Laptop computer valued five thousand five hundred Lleones (Le5,500), three(3) pairs slippers each value four hundred leones (400) total value of one thousand two hundred leones (1,200), one Cacago Jean shirt value four hundred leones (400) one cacogo jeans trousers value four hundred leones (400) and one CCTV Video Camera value twenty thousand leones (20,000) all to the total value of twenty seven thousand five hundred leones (Le27,500) property of Defence for Children’s International whilst in custody of Serah Saffa.
Count furthered that the accused on the same date and place, maliciously damaged one cabinet value three thousand leones (3,000), one ceiling value five thousand leones (5,000) and one A Lock value one hundred and fifty leones (150) all to the total value of eight thousand one hundred and fifty leones (8,150) property of Defence for Children’s International whilst in custody of Serah Saffa.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused person, no plea taken.
The State Prosecutor Sergeant 8811 Florence M. Wilson led prosecution witness number three Detective Constable Abubakarr Mansaray 19077 Mansaray A.B. attached to the CID Congo cross Police Station did recognize both the accused and the complainant in the matter.
Abubakarr revealed that on the 1st February, 2025, he was on duty at the Congo Cross Police Station when the complainant reported a matter of theft assigned to him by his Supervisor D. Sergeant 773 Gerard Conteh as he and the complainant visited the scene crime when the complainant took him through the scene where the accused broke and entered their office.
He furthered that he observed the broken place and took snap shot of the crime scene with his Techno Camon 30 Phone. The Mobile Phone was produced and tendered as marked “Exhibit A1-18”.
Abubakarr mentioned that on the 2nd February, 2025, he arrested the accused on the scene and was brought to the Congo Cross Police Station as he and Detective Inspector Alusine Conteh obtained statement from him whilst Inspector Alusine Conteh interviewed the accused in Krio and read the statement in Krio to the accused and recorded it in English.
He went on to say that the accused agreed with the statement to be true and correct by affixing his right hand thumbprint. The voluntary statement was produced and tendered marked as Exhibit B1-13.
Abubakarr noted that on 11th February, 2025, Inspector Alusine Conteh took charged statement from the accused in English for office breaking and larceny as the interviewer who questioned and cautioned him and he recorded it in English read it over to him in Krio and the accused agreed with the statement by affixing his right hand thumbprint witnessed by Inspector Alusine who signed as the recorder and marked as Exhibit C1-3. The accused was not legally represented.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused person to the male correctional facility in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to 22nd May, 2025 for further proceedings.
