MPs from both side of the aisle, the ruling and the main opposition party (APC) have ratified four agreements including a new law on the prohibition of nuclear weapons of mass destruction.
This happened on Wednesday 27th March 2024.
The cooperation agreement was between the office of vocational training and employment promotion, and the Moroccan International Cooperation Agency, (AMCI) of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Ministry of Higher and Technical Education of the Republic of Sierra Leone.
The framework of cooperation agreement is relating to the granting of academic scholarships and internship.
It is also about the sharing of expertise between the Kingdom of Morocco represented by Moroccan Cooperation Agency International (AMCI) and the Republic of Sierra Leone represented by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE).
A government speaker said the agreement between the two countries, Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Sierra Leone serves as a reciprocal promotion and protection of investments.
The four bills were tabled before the house for ratifications on diverse dates.
According to the Leader of majority in the house of parliament Hon. Abdul Kargbo expressed his dismay when many MPs were unavoidably absent.
Hon. Kargbo thanked the Minister Musa Timothy Kabba for a job well done , adding that the agreement on nuclear weapon is dangerous.
He said the agreement has made it simple for Sierra Leoneans to invest in Morocco like a Moroccan will do the same in Sierra Leone.
He affirmed that the bill touches and concerns about the framework cooperation agreement between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Sierra Leone.
The agreement, he said, will contribute to the economic development, making Sierra Leoneans to be at peace while investing in Morocco.
The majority leader suggested to Mr.Timothy to have a conference with Sierra Leone businessmen and women regarding the ratification of the agreement.
Hon. Kargbo encouraged the house to expeditiously pass the four bills into law.
Emerson Saa Lamina representing Kono district heaped praises on the minister for his marvelous job and assured that the bills are important.
He asserted that the ministry should sought the interest of the people of Sierra Leone, saying that Sierra Leone is the 71stcountry that ratifies the agreement.
Hon. Lamina laid on articles 7(b), noting that nuclear weaponry is dangerous due to the hazardous effect it causes on the lives of people.
Hon. Lamina shed light on the vocational training aspect of the bill as it will contribute immensely to promoting president Bio’s “Five Game Changer” agenda.
He therefore urged the House to Speedy and alacrity ratify the bills.
Timothy thanked MPs for their various contributions and comments.
In the absence of the Speaker and his deputy, Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay presided over the plenary.
She thanked her colleagues for the confidence they repose on her over the past two days as head of the well.
