An Islamic scholar from Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Hamid Abubakrr Turay, is urging his colleague graduates to be spreading Islam in the interiors of Sierra Leone.
“Most of our colleague missionaries who studied Islam in Saudi Arabia have not been teaching people about Islam as they’re required to do by the Saudians,” he said.
Learning from experience, the Chief Imam of Masjid Rahma, in Waterloo, said many graduating scholars having Islamic degrees and doctorates are only staying up in the capital to do Da’wah.
He is concerned that many ignorant Muslims are left out to be taught the correct Deen.
He said already most Muslims who live in Freetown have got enough knowledge about Islam than those who live in the provinces.
Worst of it for some scholars, he said, is for them to claim that they go to the provinces to teach people the religion.
“Some missionaries collect salaries from the Government of Saudi Arabia. They will lie to the Saudi authorities that they go to different villages doing Da’wah but they never had gone to these places. It’s a big sin to do so,” said Sheikh Hamid.
“Our fellow scholars know very well that we were taught Ahadith (Prophet Muhammad SAW preachings) about our responsibilities to the people and the consequences in the hereafter for failing to get across the message of monotheism.”
“There are many Muslim men and women who wish to learn about their religion (Islam) in Sierra Leone. But you are depriving them the opportunity to do so.”
“Know it that the thousands of dollars you were paid for by the Saudi Arabian government to study Islam in their country is never your mother or father’s money,” Sheikh Hamid Turay was speaking to students of Jalsatu Athafsirria at his Masjid Rahma in Waterloo at their usual morning classes on 16th October, 2024.
Jalsatu Athafsirria means in Arabic a ” sitting by people to interpret the Qur’an.”
Sheikh Hamid said he is committed ever to teaching others the Qur’an until his time of death.
“It is task we must fulfill as Islamic scholars to help teach the less educated ones. I am advising colleague graduates to have fear in Allah for the Judgment Day they will have to give account of their Da’wah.”
