The Sierra Leone Parliament is facing a serious water shortage and it has gone for over the past four days.
It is causing discomfort as complaints are being made by lawmakers and visitors.
The lack of water in Parliament vicinity has made restroom facilities unusable, leading to unpleasant odors throughout the parliamentary corridors and this is impacting the daily operations within the house.
Several staff members and visitors have voiced their frustrations over the situation as they have been expressing concerns over the inadequate facilities at the place.
Many argue that such a high-profile institution should not be experiencing prolonged disruptions of essential services like water.
One visitor remarked, “a place like Parliament should not go a single day without water, let alone four. It reflects poorly on the way water is handled at the law house and that affects everyone’s work.”
Parliament members and staff are urging immediate actions to address the water crisis. They suggested that the Gurma Valley Water Company could be contacted to ensure a stable water supply in the area.
This situation has underscored the need for Parliament to have reliable water and sanitation facilities but the prolonged issues compromise the dignity and functionality of one of the nation’s most important institutions.
If these conditions persist, many are concerned that it could hinder the legislative work of the house thus impacting the ability of lawmakers to focus on crucial national matters.
A swift resolution is necessary to restore a suitable working environment and to uphold standards in Parliament.
