The Chief Whip of the Opposition government in parliament, Hon Abdul Karim Kamara has expressed opinion that there are thieves in the government, “we still have thieves in governance”
The MP made the submissions on Thursday 15th January 2025 when debating on the Sierra Leone Social Protection Act 2024.
According to Hon Kamara, the monies meant for the less privileged dished in communities by NACSA are going into the wrong hands of [politicians].
He stated that the money is set allocated for the aged, above 36 years.
The MP blast that some politicians sometimes protect those who corruptly steal these monies meant for the people.
Hon AKK furthered that; politicians should stop protecting those who use government resources to their personal selves.
He called on Parliament to instill discipline in public offices.
The Deputy Opposition leader, Daniel Koroma buttressed on the proper utilization of public funds, stating that, the new bill should reflect on the spirit of helping the vulnerable.
Daniel Koroma said, the bill has some issues to amend during the legislative session.
In his submissions, the Leader of Government Business, Matthew Sahr Nyuma said the government through NACSA, has social protection role to help the vulnerable but it is sas it is not well- coordinated.
He said the new Act will make sure it fixes up all the problems emanating from the social protection.
He said the new Act when amended and approved will better be used to coordinate and get to benefit the masses.
