As Sierra Leoneans whether rich or poor, we must learn to maintain our prestige and portray the good name of ourselves and our country.
We normally do this by way of keeping to our commitments, the National Pledge of Sierra Leone, and by demonstrating that our words are binding and they express our purpose.
AFRICA 24 newspaper, is not making apologies for anybody nor is it acting on sentiments in handling issues of national interest that, may in the future have some adverse effect on the reputation of the government of the day or any other government in the future or the country as a whole.
Years back, Sierra Leone was seriously ravaged by a senseless and brutal 11 year civil war and by the thieving attitude of political Leaders, past and present, it is time we start to make serious amends to show the World that, we are not what our politicians have pointed us to be and that, we are not a nation that backtracks on contracts and obligations.
AFRICA 24 newspaper, is very quick to observe with dismay that the Gento group of Company was allegedly awarded series of roads contracts that are to be constructed in the Waterloo township in the rural district during the days of the All People’s Congress government led by former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.
According to investigations carried out by the investigative team of the Africa 24 newspaper, there is clear evidence that such roads are nothing to write home about.
These roads have been abandoned for reasons best known to the Gento Group of Company.
The one million dollar question residents in the Waterloo communities are presently asking is that, is it because the owner of the company is a strong member of the ruling SLPP government? That he cannot be brought to book to answer to questions relating to the abandoned roads?
The Gento Group of Company is a household name in the field of roads construction in the country.
It is no secret that the Chief Executive Officer {CEO} of Gento Group of Company, Mohamed Gento Kamara has shown interest in vying to contest the position of Mayor in the forthcoming multitier elections under the party ticket of the incumbent party.
The question is whether it is a novelty that succeeding government sometimes refused to honor contracts entered into or incurred by their predecessors and if that is the case, it is an ugly precedent set by the SLPP government for succeeding government to do the same.
In such circumstances, there is likelihood that the International Community and even local business people would begin to lose confidence in us as a nation.
President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, should make sure that he honored all signed and sealed contracts by the previous government as government is about continuity. He should then formulate strategies of awarding contracts to individuals or companies so that such precedent would not be set for any succeeding government.
It is no longer a secret that public monies are paid to contractors and they woefully failed to do the jobs for which they have received the said money.
It is worth noting that government has come and gone but the country still remains a standstill.
Why not let justice take it full course for the good of the general society.
