Information gathered by this medium has intimated that one, Alusine Kanu’s life is in danger. Alusine was a strong advocate about poor facilities in the educational sector against previous All People’s Congress (APC) led by former president Koroma and current Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) government of president Bio.

Family sources disclose that Alusine’s life became under severe threat by hired thugs of the past and current regimes who attempted on many occasions to silence him as he suffered several beatings a situation that led to his disappearance sometime in July 2021 as they could not tell his actual location.

According to sources, Alusine actually started his advocacy in 2010 during former president Koroma’s tenure in office and was stoutly advocating against unhygienic health facilities, poor water supply and over crowdedness in schools across the country especially in rural areas like Tonkolili where he hails from.

He was vibrant in advocating against the APC regime for not fulfilling its promises to build better infrastructure in schools in Sierra Leone. His strong advocacy against the APC government made them to perceive him as an anti- APC who criticized and sabotaged their government. He was popularly known as the ‘voice of the voiceless’ and had bitter confrontations with the APC regime that bullied and did mob justice to him on several occasions.

This medium gathered that hired thugs loyal to APC party in 2017 attacked his house and damaged properties, but he cunningly escaped to an unknown location.

By then, Alusine Kanu was perceived by the opposition Sierra Leone People’s party (SLPP) as pro-supporter because of his advocacy against the APC regime then.

When the SLPP of president Bio was elected into office on April 4, 2018 they prioritized education as their flagship program and promised to build schools across the entire country and the least deprived villages in Sierra Leone.

However, due to the failure of the SLPP government to keep to their manifesto promises on prioritizing education especially on the promises made to build more schools and create extra classrooms on the existing ones and improve on the health facilities. Reliable sources disclosed that in 2020, Alusine was left with no option but to continue his advocacy as he saw no significant improvement.

It is also believed that it was Alusine Kanu’s fearless approach in preaching against the odds of the APC that made the people to vote them out of power. Sources said Alusine Kanu left no stone unturned in his robust advocacy on education, especially on poor water supply, poor toilet facilities, and unfriendly learning environment. Alusine Kanu was the people’s vuvuzela when APC was in power.

Owing to Alusine’s strong advocacy this medium investigative team discovered that, Alusine was offered the opportunity in January 2021 to be part of the SLPP, but he vehemently turned down the offer as he perceived the approach was to silence him.

Our investigative team further discovered that due to his rejection, he was viewed as a betrayer of the SLPP government for his persistent stance that all succeeding governments’ must strictly adhered to what is in their manifestoes especially on education.

This medium was informed that Alusine Kanu’s life became under serious threat as thugs loyal to the ruling SLPP had wanted to take away the poor man’s life.

Credible information disclosed that on July 6, 2021 on a conducted tour to inspect schools in Magburuka, Tonkolili district Alusine was attacked by SLPP thugs who beat him up mercilessly because of his strong advocacy against the SLPP government due to their failure to provide the enabling learning environment for school going children as promised.

However, this medium learnt that Alusine Kanu was never favoured by the erstwhile APC because they strongly believed it was due to his advocacy that caused their defeat in the 2018 polls.

Equally, members of the ruling SLPP party who spoke to this press, said they will not tolerate Alusine Kanu because they are of the firm conviction that his advocacy might lead to their defeat in the 2023 polls.

This medium can confirm that Alusine Kanu’s life is now entangled between the deep blue sea and the devil as neither political party is not comfortable with his advocacy. Sources say he is a hunted person by both political parties’ thugs who are desperately searching to ascertain his exact whereabouts.
