The Director for Crime Services attached to Criminal Investigations Department headquarters, Commissioner Ibrahim Lahai has told journalists at the usual police press briefing that armed robbers on 5th July, 2023 attacked a fishing vessel along the Yeliboa axis and shot the Captain of vessel.
Addressing newsmen at the police national headquarters on George Street, Commissioner Ibrahim Lahai said the attack of the fishing vessel by these armed men was unfortunate and the police have put security measures in place by strengthening security at the Yeliboa area, adding that it is the responsibility of the police to protect lives and properties at sea and not only on land.
He said that they are making sure that such an occurrence does not repeat itself.
In addition, the Director of Operations, AIG Mohamed Braima Jah has intimated to the press that they have received three vessels for the Maritime wing of the police, adding that this is the first time a sitting government has provided boats for the police.
He continued that they are now thinking of dispatching these boats to Yeliboa where he said there is a high rate of armed robbers attacking fishing vessels.
However, AIG Braima Jah said they will first commission these boats before sending them at sea.
