The regional commander for Freetown west police division, Commissioner Victor Manfred Williams has told the press at the weekly police media update on Tuesday 7th March, 2023 that they arrested one Mohamed Mamoud Ahmad Alhadi in possession of $22 million dollar notes at the Sierra Palms hotel, beach road, Lumley.
Commissioner Victor Manfred Williams stated that ASP Jeneba Bangura of beach police station accompanied by one Albert Lamin who he said is a CSV member and also member of the local policing partnership board arrested Mohamed Mahmoud Ahmad Alhadi with the twenty-two million dollar notes, adding that he used the money to purchase and was trapped and whisked over to the Lumley police station. He noted that the said $22 million dollar might be fake or unlawfully obtained and, according to Commissioner Williams, $1 million dollar notes is not out and has transferred the matter to the CID.
Detective Inspector Fritzlnun Joshua Moisa attached to the operations unit at the CID headquarters reported that on Friday 12th March, 2023, Mohamed Mamoud Ahmad Alhadi of No.1 Juba Hill, west-end of Freetown was found in possession of 22 notes of 1 million dollar each suspected to be counterfeit notes at the Sierra Palms hotel.
According to Detective Inspector Moisa, the suspect booked a room (203) where he occupied and later came down to the restaurant for breakfast, adding that it was on that course that the waiters were in doubt if he could pay. Detective Inspector Moisa said to convince them Mohamed M.A Alhadi took out one $1 million dollar notes as this heightened the waiters’ suspicion that the money is counterfeit and they instantly called on the police who searched the suspect and discovered 21 additional notes on him. He said the suspect has refused to inform the police where he got the money and is currently under police custody.
