Foday Sheriff, a twenty four year old barber was again arraigned before Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Court on four count charges of causing grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Persons Act of 1816, ranging from wounding with Intent, contrary to section 18 and 20 of the offences Against the Persons Act 1861 and assault occasioning actual bodily harm- contrary to section 47 of the offences Against the Persons Act of 1816.
The police charge sheet indicated that the accused on Wednesday, 23rd April, 2025, at No. 57 Lumley Road, Wilberforce in Freetown in the western area of the Republic of Sierra Leone, caused grievous bodily harm to Ibrahim Sorie Kamara with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.
Count two and three stated that the accused on the same date and place, maliciously wounded Ibrahim Sorie Kamara.
Count four furthered that the accused on the same date and place, assaulted Ibrahim Sorie Kamara in a manner thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused person, no plea was taken.
The state prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police Barber Musa led in prosecution witness number three Alusine Edward Conteh Detective Inspector Conteh A. E attached to the Congo Cross Police Station recognized both the accused person and the complainant and recalled on the 24th April, 2025 that he was on duty when the complainant reported a case of causing grievous bodily harm as the matter was assigned to him for investigation.
Alusine mentioned that he issued the complainant a police medical request form for treatment and examination to the Connaught hospital and on the 27th April, 2025, he returned it with an X-Ray report attached to serve which has been in police custody now produced and tendered as Exhibit A1-3, noting that, on the same date above he obtained statement from the and two witnesses Mamisa Sheriff and Mariama Sheriff which have been in custody which were produced and tendered as Exhibit B1-7,C1-6 and D1-4 respectively.
He furthered that on 2nd and 4th May, 2025, himself together with Detective Sergeant 9520 Koroma A, obtained caution statement from the accused person in Krio and he recorded it in English and at the end he also read and explained it to him which he admitted to be true and correct by affixing his right hand thumbprint witnessed by Sergeant 9520 Koroma A and he as the recorder now produced and tendered as Exhibit C1-11
He went on to say that on the 4th May, 2025, himself with Detective Sergeant 9520 Koroma A charged the accused person with the following offences, causing grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent and assault causing actual bodily harm and was read and explained to him which he admitted to be true and correct by affixing his right thumb print now produced and tendered as Exhibit F1-3.
The defense counsel L.S Juldeh applied for bail on behalf of the accused that he is an ordinary resident within this jurisdiction with fixed abode and is not a flight risk. He noted that he will not interfere with the prosecution witnesses and has reliable sureties who are ready to avail themselves whenever called upon and cited section 79 2 of the criminal procedure Act of 1965.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Fornah refused bail because of the seriousness of the offence charged and sent him on remand to the male correctional center in Freetown.
The case has been adjourned to the 26th June, 2025 for the continuation of his trial.
