The Wise Bird has been getting persistent calls from the public in respect of public transportation in the country by way of expressing their reactions and suffering in terms of public transportation.
As the population continues to increase in the city and its environs, people are expecting the SLPP government to make more provision for the suffering masses as it is the duty of the government to do so.
The brave bird is doing everything humanly possible not to be found wanting in what he stands for, and so he always goes out to get firsthand information on issues of public interest.
Having received all the calls and complaints in respect of the Sierra Leone Roads Transport Co-operation (SLRTC), the bird was left with no alternative but to fly to the company or co-operation himself to know whether all the allegations levied against the co-operation are anything to go by.
On arrival, in the compound of SLRTC, the bird counted about ninety (90 ) plus buses parked in the compound and are completely are no longer road worthy.
At first the Wise Bird was prevented from entering the compound by some security personnel, but thanks to one senior officer who reasoned with the bird and allowed the wise animal to enter the compound.
It could be recall that, in 2015, the then Minister of Transport and Aviation Mr. Leonard Balugu Koroma came in, as per project, with brand new buses that were meant to ease the transport situation within the city and in the provinces.
In 2018 because President Julius Maada Bio cannot do it all by himself, he appointed few people in certain positions to assist him in running the state.
His Excellency the President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, in his wisdom, appointed one Mr. Ken Greene, who is ‘greener’ than the colour green to head the Sierra Leone Roads Transport Co-operation (SLRTC).
The Wise Bird was very much astonished from what he saw in the compound that, all the buses bought by the former government were completely damaged beyond repairs.
The Wise Bird will say without hesitation that, there is nothing good to write home about the Co-operation and the man at the helm of affairs.
The brave bird was reliably informed that, all the monies collected by the Co-operation has been diverted into private pockets.
The bird spoke with few of the workers (names withheld); they told the bird that, Mr. Ken Greene is incompetent, unfit to handle the Co-operation.
According to competent information gathered from some workers it is believed that prior to the appointment of Mr. Ken Greene, there were well over eighteen (18) buses that were road-worthy and those buses were bringing a stream of income to the Co-operation.
It is clear to note that all those monies were and still not accounted for, and today the Co-operation cannot boost of having five (5) buses that are plying the streets of Freetown, not even to talk about buses going to the provinces.
In order to be professional, the bird made several moves to get the side of management of SLRTC but all efforts proved futile.
The Wise Bird will continue to follow up on this issue with keen interest.
