Since President Bio’s led SLPP attained power after 2018 General Elections, this country has been exposed to numerous political turmoil that has resulted into a ding – dong battle between the two main political parties the APC and the SLPP which over the years has given credence to the ongoing endless pushing and shoving of political views and counter views relating to Pa Bio’s presidency.
The stark reality is, some group of Sierra Leoneans mainly from the APC camp from the onset, have expressed high level of pessimism about his leadership for which they tagged and perceived him as short-lived [one term] president. On the other hand, supporters from the SLPP camp were highly optimistic about his success considering the fact that he is not new in that office coupled with his former nomenclature as a disciplined old military man who can translate his character into his political leadership to bolster his acumen that will enable him institute stringent and stung discipline in the country.
In fact, for years many Sierra Leoneans have been yearning for a disciplined leader in this country strong enough to change the alarming lawlessness that has over the years permeated almost all facets of life in the country and there is no doubt that many voters voted for President Bio on account of his previous nomenclature as highly trained and qualified soja.
Nevertheless, this euphoria has been going on for almost six years [6] and the momentum has been exacerbated by our then General Elections which has resulted into mudslinging between the two main political parties the APC and the SLPP. But the belated outburst of Dr. Samura Kamara Flag Bearer of the APC is not new or surprising to many Sierra Leoneans because he said the same thing when he lost the first elections to President Bio that he won the elections but his votes were stolen. Yet, what bothers many Sierra Leoneans is the proposed peace talk between these two political parties given the fact that our country has been internationally branded as beacon of peace which is why we have attained a Non-Permanent seat at the UN. But with a deeper thought, our accolade is seemingly paradoxical to what is unfolding on the ground.
The APC and SLPP are at dagger point from the time President Bio introduced the Commission of Inquiring [COI] which has roped Dr. Samura Kamara APC Flag Bearer and many other former ministers and big vons coupled with the former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma who is also in court for another crime. Truly said, how APC will adore SLPP sample with the most anticipated peace talk when the problem of the peace has not been obliterated? The fact of the matter is the hosting of [COI ] has over the years interpreted as harbinger of all political standoff in our beloved Mama Salone. But is it prudent to render ACC redundant to drop all APC’s cases in the name of peace option or to continue the battle? This is the naked truth that our so-called peace makers should ponder over.
