The Speaker of the Sierra Leone Parliament has disclosed that “it has become so palpable that we are under heavy attack and denigration from the general public.”
Dr. Abass Bundu said sadly that Parliament started the New Year by capturing the news headlines for all the wrong reasons in both the mainstream and social media as well as in general discussions.
For this reason alone, according to the Speaker, there seems to be a lapse in the dignity and decorum in Parliament, as the arm of Government entrusted with the sacred responsibility to make the laws of the land, as at present there is absolutely nothing for them to celebrate. He therefore insisted that they all apologize to the people of this country whose trust and confidence they bear and on whose behalf they act in the well of Parliament as their representatives.
By the same token, Dr. Bundu took the opportunity to express their collective regret and to ask for their forgiveness and promise that they will never again commit the grievous mistakes of the recent past.”
