A senior police officer attached at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters along Pademba road, Joshua Moisa has on Tuesday 24th January, 2023 during the weekly police press briefing confirmed the arrest and detention of German national Dieter Alfred who was allegedly found in possession of Le82,000,000 (Eighty-two million Leones) at the Lungi International Airport.

Mr. Joshua Moisa said on Friday 20th January, 2023 a combined team of policemen, Office of National Security (ONS) and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) arrested Mr. Dieter Alfred in possession of Le82,000,000 with huge quantity of Liberian currency in coins alleging that he attempted to smuggle the currencies out of Sierra Leone.

He said during investigation the German national said the currency was found in his possession and came to Sierra Leone to visit as a tourist, adding that he went to the United Bank of Africa (UBA) and used his visa card and withdrew the money.

Joshua Moisa said that the German citizen had wanted to travel with the money to Germany, adding that Mr.Dieter Alfred made an enquiry at the Airport if he is allowed to travel with the Le82,000,000 and it was at this juncture that he was intercepted and arrested during the process.
