As the usual sitting place of the brave bird is no longer, that is more the reason the wise bird is now moving from place to place looking out for credible, accurate, factual and unquestionable news stories to build more into our credibility.
The brave bird has been following the activities and speeches made by most politicians especially at this time when the general elections are just around the corner.
Flagbearers of the two main political parties, the All Peoples Congress (APC) party and the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) have little or no respect for both print and electronic media practitioners.
Bra Parrot has noticed lately that these politicians only come closer to the media when something negative is written against them for retraction.
The brave bird will say without hesitation that the two flagbearers of both SLPP and APC are not media friendly but they want to be promoted for the world to see and hear about them at the detriment of the media profession.
It is no longer a secret that the media can make and break an individual or group of individuals.
To the dismay of the brave bird, not too long ago that Bra Parrot overheard one of the Presidential candidates saying, “he is not even reading newspapers in Sierra Leone,” and the reason he gave was because “the media is bias and not objective in reporting”.
The brave bird starts to think whenever a news story is not in someone’s favour, it is considered to be a bias or a bad story.
To politicians and even some members of the general public, newspaper reporting is only important to them when it is in their favour or a promotional story written in their favour.
Bra Parrot has the greatest respect for politicians and the general public but sometimes when a Journalist wants to cross-check a story and happens to meet a politician or any member of the public, they will say the Journalist is in to demand for money (dregging).
Bra Parrot has been made to understand recently that only in Sierra Leone that politicians have little or no respect for Journalists.
Bra Parrot is just making a general statement and not referring to a particular politician or politicians because all are guilty of not having respect for Journalists.
Sometimes they do not pay for adverts published in their favour.
Journalists in other parts of the world are respected and that is the reason they are been referred to as the forth-estate, meaning after the Executive, Judiciary and Legislature the media come in as the forth-estate.
