Opposition MPs including Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara have ticked Sierra Leone as a country heading to austerity and famine.
They said the burning issues the people are going through daily must be addressed by the government speedily.
Hon. Abdul Karim said the current administration has had no tangible developments being implemented by them to help to improve the livelihoods of the citizens.
He emphasized that the country’s economy is in a precarious stage as many citizens are unable to secure their daily bread due to government’s decision to remove “subsidies on basic commodities.”
His thought was that the citizens are now surviving like magicians without any clear hope for the future.
The Chief Whip in the well for APC party analyzed the different prices of the country’s staple diet, saying the diets have seen an acute increment.
“Today a bag of rice in Freetown is Le 989.00; in Kambia Town it is sold Le 1,000.00.”
He maintained that the above prices are charged by sellers at areas that are closer to Freetown.
He expressed worries for places that are far-fetched off the city such places like Kailahun, Bomaru, Koindu, Rutile, Bonthe, Kabala et.
He said what perturbed him most was that government keeps increasing the prices of basic commodities without due consideration on salary increments for poor labour workers.
He said the money is less in circulation but it could be seen with those close to the powers that be.
