The Acting Secretary General of the Sierra Leone’s Bakers Union, Abu Bakarr Bah has told the Africa24 during a snap interview at his home office on Gerber Lane Mountain Cut that there is enough flour in the market and the office price for a bag of flour now stands at NLe750 and has reverted from the old price and size for a loaf bread.
Abu Bakarr Bah stated that there was a delay in the shipment of flour which he said led to the rising cost of a bag of flour to NLe1, 500 and was beyond their control, adding that business people took advantage of the situation to hoard and sell the flour at a very exorbitant price, “these are business people not part of the Bakers Union`,” he stated.
He continued that the leading importers have helped to salvage the situation and reverted the price from NLe1, 500 to NLe750. He assured the bakers and the public that the issue has been resolved and flour now available at the market while admonishing business people not to sell the product at a very exorbitant price.
He disclosed that they have plans to take legal actions against the increment of flour and reiterated that the size and price of bread have been reverted to its old price.
