Mass Communication is one of the reputable departments at the University of Makeni (Unimak) that is gearing towards salvaging the numerous challenges the media is facing especially in the areas of misinformation, blackmailing, fake news etc.
The department is robustly aiding to liberate journalists from the nemesis of propagating falsified information, rejuvenated affected ones since its inception almost 14 years ago, a statement said.
On the 26th April 2024, the executive for the Association of Mass Communication (AMCU) organized its 10th year of Academic Excellence Dinner Award Night at the university auditorium which was witnessed by all walks of life.
Prominent personalities at the dinner were Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, Mr. Ahmed S. Nasrala who is President of Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and the Secretary General, Mr. Alhaji M. Kamara, B. B. C, Mr. Umaro Fofanah and others.
The theme for this year’s event is: Invest in Mass Communication, a Pathway for Sustainable Development in Sierra Leone.
The theme was exhaustively analysed by various speakers. Immediately after that the award-givers recognized the efforts of some patriotic leaders with laudable gifts who had been contributed in diverse ways toward ensuring national development.
Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara , was among the awardees.
Since this gentleman was elected as Member of Parliament, referring to honourable Karim, developments have become visible in the eyes of the people ranging from infrastructure, human capital investment, advocacy, electricity and agriculture.
On that view, a prestigious award was given to him as a way to recognizing his unwavering efforts as he is always willing and ready to render effective services to national development, a statement said.
Opposition Chief Whip’s leadership skills are unmatched as there is justification to the effect.
He is among the few young people who always anticipate for progressive strides for the country irrespective of his political affiliation.

“ You have proven yourself worthy in all aspects of life,” a statement of eulogy reads.
