Sierra Leone’s political history can be seen as a maze of threads beginning in various places frequently crossing and ranging with one another with new strands entering from time to time. To marvel this jumble for an understanding, one must begin with the directives from the APC Secretariat to boycott the 6th Parliament of the Republic.
The defenders of the APC were not long in dividing whether they should give priority to equality or liberty. The APC began life in 1960 of the 19th century to preserve political and civil liberties as well as imposed Republicanism when neither was secured in the country.
The party scarcely retains anything but its name. It was in many ways their founding fathers politics are being praised and admired but followed compromises and deals are the daily reality.
The APC continues to make attempts in a different way to heighten the temperature of politics which is not of any advantage no end in the future. It is time however to mention two further points, since 1961, the independence seem slowly to recover it appeared the APC is unable to challenge from a minority points to provide an alternative more liberal.
The controversy in Sierra Leone over power started since Siaka Stevens’s days and gathered momentum with the advent of the 21st century generation.
Sierra Leone was for a large time a peasant nation. This is not only because as many as 50 percent of Sierra Leoneans were engaged in agriculture in the past it is also because the vast majority occupied in the level were owners of small plots inherited from their parents to which they were passionately attached.
In the 17 years of Siaka Stevens rule, people lost passion of being farmers and migrated to search for better life. The riches of the nation from the mineral sales were transferred to other nations and Agriculture became a small scale farming exercise as the youths migrate.
The wreckages caused by the APC to advance this nation at a time when everything was at its advantage fore told in our present day Sierra Leone to begin afresh what we would have had over the years. Yet, the APC behaves as if it had not done anything of historical bias to this nation.
The disadvantage for the APC to advance further to rule is much more greater than its advantages, the 21st century has blessed Sierra Leone with a political leadership to showcase the difference, a developmental initiative we were deprived of the past, an innovation that was malign to the people of this country, so, as the APC has started to boycott, so is it ripe for the people to boycott their votes, simply because, you cannot wrangle for power when time is no longer in your favour or else the consequences of forcing uncertainties to be certain will tell as time goes on, for the APC the boycott is not victory but when history is respected could be a tainted defect too late to mend.
