The 2021 Auditor General’s report has indicated that Sierra Leone Roads Authority failed to provide supporting document for verification of the sum of Le 24,050,000 as sitting fees to board members that were absent for board meetings.
The report indicated that the amount totaling Le 28,125,000 was paid as sitting fees to board members and records of the board meeting were not presented for audit inspection, and that the evidence justifying the payment totaling Le28,125,000 as sitting fees to board members present and Le245,050,000 were not provided for audit verification.
The report cited section 16.1 of the Accounting Manual of the Authority stipulates that sufficient documentation should be maintained on all fixed assets to determine costs and ensure assets’ location and condition. The report disclosed that SLRA did not have an Asset Register for FY 2021 and therefore recommended that, the Director General to make sure that the Director of Finance record details including identification codes of all assets owned and controlled by the Authority and evidence of action taken to be submitted to the Audit Service.
