The controversial Parliament Act 2023 will be reintroduced in Parliament on Wednesday April 19th 2023.
“Following directives from the Office of the Clerk of Parliament, the Clerk of Parliament is inviting the General Public and Other Interested Persons to come to Parliament on Wednesday 19/04/2023, at 10:00 AM in the Chamber of Parliament to witness the debate on the re-introduction of the Bill entitled: “The Parliament Act 2023”, a press release from Parliament states. .
The Bill was recently withdrawn in Parliament due to outcry from an opposition Member of Parliament, following a motion of withdrawal moved by the Deputy Speaker and seconded by the Leader of Government Business.
The said Bill is seeking for the codification of existing laws and other actions taken for and on behalf of Parliament over the years and to provide for the general governance and administration of the Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone and to provide for other related matters.
The bill makes provision for the Speaker of Parliament to get US$2,500 furniture allowance, vehicle and three securities.
Members of Parliament will get 80% of their five years salaries or one off payment of fifty thousand United States dollars (US$50,000).
