Santigie Kamara, a 35-year-old Operational Support Division (OSD) officer of the Sierra Leone Police has been committed to the High Court following a hearing before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at the Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown.
Kamara is charged with murder under section 1 of the Offences Against the Persons Act of 1861, as amended by section 1(a) of the Schedule to the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2021 (Act No.6 of 2022).
According to the charge sheet, on January 19, 2025, at 5-5-5 Lorry Park in Waterloo, Western Rural District, Kamara allegedly killed Francis Amara Kanneh, who is reported to be his brother.
During his initial court appearance, the charges were read and explained, but no plea was entered. The prosecution, led by Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai, subsequently closed its case, and the file was withdrawn for judgement.
In the interest of justice, Magistrate Jah, having reviewed the evidence presented, committed Kamara to stand trial at the High Court.
