The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), has stated that, Abibatu Paran Tarawally; the wife of the Clerk of Parliament received salary for nineteen months between September 2021 and March 2023.

And that only ceases when her name was removed from the Parliamentary payroll. This information refutes the ten months that is claimed in a latest report she had been collecting money for.

Over this issue, ACC’s boss Francis Ben Kelfala will be addressing the media on Wednesday 24 January, 2024 and he is expected to announce some indictments pertaining to current high-profile investigation.

Paran and Wife are on bail over a latest corruption case, hanging around their necks, which includes the abuse of office following the illegal recruitment of his wife as a staff of Parliament.

The wife has refunded a sum of NLe 131, 000 of her salaries she had been receiving as an impostor in parliament.

Addressing members of the media at the weekly government press conference hosted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ACC Commissioner, Francis Ben Kelfala, said he had personally called Paran Tarawally about today’s (Wednesday) meet.

He also confirmed that, there was no law preventing Paran Tarawally from recruiting her wife or his brother.

But only that the law states clearly that he must have expressed it in writing.

He said Paran himself confirmed during their conversation that her wife was working in parliament without undergoing proper law procedures of the country, adding that it was then, through Paran’s revelation, that he was requested to refund the State the monies he had paid as monthly salaries to his wife.

He said while at ACC office, Paran Tarawally and wife scrambled but were able to pay the sum of NLe 131,000 (One hundred and thirty One thousand leone).

Ben Kelfala further said that what was more disturbing was that Paran Tarawally had told the Commission during the first hearing at the ACC office that her wife had worked in parliament for about ten months but when the Commission verified with the Accountant General’s Office, it was discovered that the wife of Paran Tarawally had been recruited since 2021 and had been paid for 19 months.
