The Wise Bird has been receiving calls from authorities of most of the schools in the Western Area, allegeding not to have been receiving salaries for some months now.
The patriotic and uncompromising animal is of the view that, when one goes to school from class one and up to University level, or other higher levels of education, the hope of that person or his/her entire family is for that person to start work at once so that, he or she can enjoy the benefit of his or her labour to the fullest.
But today in Sierra Leone, this is not the case in some institutions as workers go without pay for months and teachers are not exempted in this case.
After graduating from the University, the worst job that a graduate can easily get nowadays is teaching job.
In most cases teachers have little or no respect at home with family, friends and sometimes even with the general public because of their poor condition of service.
The allegation(s) the bird has got is that, some teachers in certain schools have gone without salaries for some months now, and even the subsidies are not forthcoming.
According to more allegations, some schools have been approved while others are yet to be approved and even those approved have not received subsidies not even to talk about salaries.
The concern of the Wise Bird here is that, how does government expect these poor teachers to live with their families when this group of teachers have not been paid.
What the Wise Bird wants the government to understand is that, all those working today in the big offices like Ministers, Lawyers, Doctors, Politicians and even the President have all gone past through teachers as they were taught by them.
Yet teachers are not taken very seriously in this country.
The Wise Bird has this belief that, no nation will develop without education, and so, plus minus teachers must be treated with the utmost seriousness they deserve.
If the allegation(s) are anything to go by, the bird will bow his head in shame because education is the priority of His Excellency the President.
The brave animal was further informed that, some school teachers receive less than a million Leones per month (unconfirmed).
The Wise Bird could vividly remember that, before the advent of the 6334, Officials from the Ministry of Education went to sister country like Banjul, The Gambia to study their system, they did not waste time but came to introduce it into this country and avoided the school certificate and General certificate of Education.
And over the years the teachers had stood firm to make the system work but today these teachers are being neglected.
The Wise Bird is very much concerned when it comes to teachers issues.
Most often teachers would strenuously sing, dance and tell stories to make students/pupils understand what is being taught in the classrooms. So why are we not giving these people the respect they deserve.
