The political atmosphere is getting tense day by day as the strong, main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party has lately conducted its lower level elections and ended its national delegate conference (NDC) in Makeni where Dr. Mathew Wilson Samura Kamara was elected as flag bearer for the June 24th,2023 three-tier elections.
However, political pundits have viewed the new national executive of the party to be loyalists and subjects to the former Chairman and Leader ex- President Ernest Bai Koroma whom they strongly believe can control from the hierarchy of the party.
The current composition of the new national executive of the APC is what is being known as old wines in bottles in which these faces are not new in the executive of the party and have benefitted a lot from the party.
Some APC party members maintained the new executives are nothing good to write home about because they have held similar positions where they failed to live up to the party’s expectation.
Seeing the come- back faces of Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray who had served as Deputy Chairman and Leader, Amb. Alhaji Dr. Osman Foday Yansaneh former Secretary General plus others have grabbled top positions again in the APC demonstrates a replica of an invocation of APC’s selection clause.
Mr. Mansaray is now Chairman of APC, Amb. Alhaji Dr. Osman Foday Yansaneh is now Deputy Chairman, Bai Mahmoud is now APC’s National Organizing Secretary and Sidi Yayah Tunis now Publicity Secretary of APC.
However, some loyal APCians are of the strong view that the current executive have been handpicked by former President Koroma prior to the national delegate conference.
According to political viewers, all they were expecting to see is a complete change in the internal democracy of the party which could have led to new political faces emerging to handle and manage the affairs of the party. There should have been a particular clause in the APC’s constitution which could have deterred these old executive guards to run again for another executive position in the party.
The Africa24 has been made to have the strong conviction that the former Chairman and Leader Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma’s shadow still lingers on within the APC party, which if the party managed to win the forthcoming Presidential election will create room for doubt over who is the Mr.President?
Some people have also said that despite he was elected this time round, Dr. Samura Kamara was a handpicked of former President Koroma to whom many truly believe will pay allegiance to his predecessor who fought to see him attained such height.
One of the presidential aspirants for the party Madam Suzan Bona went to decry Dr. Samura Kamara in which he stated that “a vote for Dr. Samura is a vote for no change,” meaning that Dr. Samura Kamara cannot bring into effect the kind of change that loyalists and supporters are yearning for in the party.
The conspicuous old faces in the new national executive body of the APC is a call for concern because this time round, the public would not want to see and hear any inter-party wrangling but to live up to expectation of democratic principles.
