Susan Bona, former Presidential Flagbearer Candidate under the All People’s Congress Party (APC) ticket in the 2023 APC Flag bearer contest, has officially declared for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) over the weekend in New Jersey in the United States of America. She did so during JMB fund raising occasion where she was given a Certificate of recognition.
The certificate was presented to Susan Bona by the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone Dr. Fatima Jabbie Bio.
First Lady Fatima Bio described Susan Bona as good and patriotic citizen that supports the Government in its developmental strides.
Her official declaration for the SLPP Party was in the presence of the First Lady of Sierra Leone and Sierra Leone delegation to the United States of America.
Susan Bona has been on record as the first female Candidate to have declared her candidacy among the highly male contested flag bearers in the race to head up the main opposition APC party.
She was among politicians like Dr. Samura Kamara, Dr. Richard Conteh, Dr. Kaifala Marrah and so on in the race for the party flag.
Susan Bona revealed that, since joining the APC party in 2011, she has been deeply committed to seeing the vision of a Sierra Leone where equality prevails, inspired by initiatives such as the 30% quota for women and former President Ernest Koroma’s vision of rebranding the APC, adding that her involvement has always been driven by a desire to contribute positively to the development of Sierra Leone.
She furthered stated that, she feels great regrets as she had observed a shift in the APC party’s dynamics that no longer aligns with her cherished values.
Giving reasons for her declaration, she said, the increasing toxicity within the APC party’s politics, characterized by violence, tribalism, and regional discrimination, particularly against the Mende and Kono tribes, made her to leave the APC Party because she belongs to the two tribes Mende and Kono, adding that, the lack of action from the APC leadership in addressing these critical issues have convinced her to have understanding that the current path of the APC diverges significantly from the principles it once stood for.
She said, her decision to declare for the SLPP came after several reflection on her former party’s current state and its deviation from the principles of respect and unity that should define their course.
Bona who finally declared for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) presented a cheque to the SLPP North America the sum of Five Thousand United States Dollar for their good work in North America in promoting and building SLPP membership in North America.
