Report reaching this medium indicates that ten (10) police officers attached at the Kailahun Police Division have been suspended for negligence of duty pending an investigation.
Confirming the news, the Media Officer, Kailahun Division, Johnson Sahr Bholima said the Complaint Discipline Internal Investigations Department (CDIID) from Police Headquarters is investigating the affected personnel for negligence of duty. He said the affected personnel were on duty when unknown people damaged the police cell which led to the escape of suspects.
He accused the ten personnel of refusing to monitor the cell that night, adding that the movement diary did not indicate anything to show that the police officers did professional work. He pointed out that the Division has undertaken preliminary investigation after the ugly incident and discovered several issues.
“Yes we find out that ten police officers were on duty the night when the cell was damage and the suspects escaped. We find out that the police cell was damaged and suspects escaped. We find out that the suspect defrauded several people by collecting huge amount of money from them. We find out that the suspects took 32 voter identity cards from the people and unknown people used giant cutters to damage the cell,” the Media Officer said recently. He said the lock up and orderly officers failed to visit the cell every thirty minutes as required by law. He emphasized that police officers will not condone and conspire with criminals to damage the cells, adding that the investigation is ongoing and will inform the public the outcome of the investigations.
