Since after the 24th June, 2023 multi-tier elections results were announced by the Chief Electoral Commissioner, the APC out rightly rejected the outcome of the election, together with other Local and International observers worldwide.
It was no secret that, the June 24, 2023 election was condemned by people from all walks of life by way of saying; the election was not fair, credible and did not reflect the will of the people.
But the APC at the time chose to participate in the October 2023 internationally mediated Cross-party dialogue held at the Bintumani Hotel, in order to foster peace, national cohesion, to seek an amicable resolution to the then political impasses in the country.
But from all indications, the SLPP government has reneged on its promises to take the necessary steps to ensure the full implementation of the national unity Agreement.
By and large, Section 92 of the Public Elections Act, of 2022, explicitly requires the release of summary of all statements of the results from the polling stations.
But the SLPP has failed to engage in further discussions and provide the necessary documentation for the process to move ahead.
The government from the look of things, has also aided and abetted the refusal by ECSL, not to release vital data and information to the Committee to be able to examine the final outcome of the 24th June 2023 election results including the 60% announced earlier.
However, the APC failed to see the writings on the wall before this time, so to us and many other people, the suspension in the participation on the Tripartite Committee makes no sense at a time like this.
It is just too late; the APC should have suspended their participation from the time the America Ambassador made the statement everybody knows that statement, it was no secret.
Secondly, the day President Bio himself said there will be no election until 2028 as if he knew the outcome of the recommendations, that should been an opportunity for the APC to act accordingly, but at a time like this to withdrawing from the Committee, makes no sense to many, it’s just a way of deceiving the people of Sierra Leone as their expectations are now been dashed.
APC needs to go back to the drawing board to do its homework properly, if not we see them in the opposition for as long as possible.
In fact, it is clear that, all those in that Committee were aspirants for the Presidency so, the possibility of a sell-out is just too eminent, and it is too little, too late for the APC to do anything now that will ring a bell.
APC, your dis-unity is under your feet!
