The reason why Bra Parrot always read documents of all types is not only to be able to acquaint himself with issues of the day, but more importantly to give correct and accurate information to his numerous readers and the public in general.
Lately, the wise bird was fortunate to lay hands on a document dated 19th September, 2022 with ref. MTI/Gen/101 from the Ministry of Trade and Industry requesting the expired executive of the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce to immediately address the problems that have engulfed the trade union body which ultimately has led to its malfunction.
Bra Parrot was able to carefully and patiently read the document to avoid misquotation and to report accurately.
According to that document, the government of Sierra Leone, through the Corporate Affairs Commission, which is an agency under the purview of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, developed the National Corporate Governance Code (NCGC) for Sierra Leone in 2018 with a view to guiding Boards, Managements and Organizations operating in the country among others.
The document is very explicit in its wordings and presentation of facts that took the old wise bird less time to read and quickly understand.
At the end, it became clearly to the clever bird that the old fashioned executive has flouted the important code with intent and impunity through lack of transparency and accountability, poor decision-making, misuse of assets, lack of team work, lack of audited annual financial statements over the years just to name a few.
As the wise bird has never told lies to the people he represents, this is more the reason the patriotic bird is quoting exactly from the document for the readers to understand the subject matter.
In a bid to protect this vital documents it has in his possession, Bra Parrot has decided to fly with them wherever he goes even at the time of going to bed, he will put them under his wings not to misplace, less to talk of losing them.
The document highlighted a number of irregularities and for government to fully optimize the country’s investment potentials, diversify and grow the economy by making it attractive and competitive. It’s against this backdrop the Ministry instructed the Chamber to immediately convene its Annual General Meeting not later than October 31, 2022.
What immediately came to the wise bird’s mind after reading is that instruction was that the Chamber has not been holding especially Annual General Meetings (AGM) for the past couple of years.
In fact, Bra Parrot has been reliably informed that, the life span of the present executive has long expired and when the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. James Koroma was contacted by the wise bird, on this number: 076-965867 to get his own side he treated the matter with levity and bluffed that they will not respond.
The wise bird is not making a case for any individual or group of individuals here, the only thing the patriotic bird wants is for the correct things to be done especially by those occupying public positions in the interest of Mama Salone.
Bra Parrot will continue to look at the documents for future publications in the interest of the country.
