The Wise Bird starts to wonder whether the government is really serious in enforcing the law to the letter.
A lot has been said of the weaknesses of the government in the areas of law enforcement, corruption fight and human rights abuses in the country.
From all indications it seems what the people who are pointing at the weaknesses of government on certain issues are totally correct.
The bird has noticed that, on two separate occasions the government in its wisdom has gone extra miles to reduce the price of petroleum pump price in order to reduce the suffering of people.
But unfortunately the two times decreases on prices of fuel have never reflected on the prices of transportation.
Currently, the prices of transportation still remain the same to the disadvantage of the common man.
The question the brave bird wants to ask is, what is the need for the decrease in fuel pump price on paper or policy when indeed it has no impact on the people and the overall transportation system.
The understanding of the bird is that, whenever the price of fuel goes down then automatically prices on transportation should equally go down.
Under the watchful eyes of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) the story is completely the opposite.
It is giving a picture that any decrease in fuel pump price could have nothing to do with the reduction of prices of commercial transport.
This brings the brave bird to the question of government not been able to enforce the law on fuel price downsize to the letter.
As a way of telling Drivers’ Union to control their members in the area of transport prices adjustment.
The decrease in fuel pump price should be in line with the decrease in transport prices.
But government is setting blind eyes on this because of a bad politics in the country.
What the patriotic and uncompromising bird did not understand up to date is that, when President Bio was campaigning during the past years he capitalized on getting more votes mainly on promising to fix lawlessness and corruption in the country. But from the look of things corruption and lawlessness have taken over an evil hand under his watch.
The bird as usual will go out to sound the views of people on national issues; and all those the bird contacted expressed dismay over the lack of government not enforcing the law by way of telling drivers to decrease their prices.
As for ‘kekehs’ and ‘okadas’ riders they’re charging people to pay fares as they like with less regard of what is the actual government prices in the country. And because of this, it appears the Government is very much comfortable with the lawlessness in the country, the people say.
