The Deputy Speaker of Parliament who also doubles as the Chairman of the Public Account Committee in Parliament, Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, has ordered authorities of the Guma Valley Water Company (GVWC) to disconnect and install those prepaid meters to all ministries, departments and agencies.
He made the submissions during the probe into Guma Valley Company (GVC) regarding the queries said of it in the latest Audit Report.
Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh said many MDAs had failed to pay water rates because of the failure to install water prepaid meters at these institutions, MDAs.
He also stated that his committee will engage the Ministry of Finance to ensure that these government institutions and all other private institutions pay out their water rates to finance ministry.
“We are going to making sure that all government institutions abide by the laws and should pay their arrears to institutions and as well follow the due processes and procedures.”
The Deputy Speaker claimed that GVC has also become a family property that is always static and that it is always complaining against MDAs and private individuals who are failing to honour payment of water bills.
He also stated that the company should start the prepaid meters installation in Parliament because he believes “charity begins at home.”
He said Parliament also owes the company some huge sums and the money will be paid to the company.
The Speaker also complained of the poor network installation, adding that water is wasted along the routes and therefore called on the Guma Valley Company to work assiduously to providing water for the masses in the affected communities.
“Every institution should and must be active at this time. Our people are suffering in the hands of others who reneged on their duties and responsibilities.
“My committee will follow up to implement all these directives to ensure sanity in the operations of Guma Valley Company,” he promised.
