There is a popular adage that says, “A chief cannot make laws to suit his own comfort whilst in power.” This is because the same laws will hunt him when the table turns.
The wise bird believes that laws are made or formulated to protect every citizen and not a particular set of people.
But despite this wise saying, Bra Parrot has seen the leaders of his kingdom over the years twisting the country’s laws in their favor without regard to public outcry.
The law abiding animal is still of the view that in spite of violation of their rights by their leaders with impunity, the kingdom’s laws should not only be made to cover the entire citizenry and not for a particular government, that is more the reason he believes when making laws, those responsible should very be careful that in the event the table turns…
Of late, the peaceful and quiet bird has observed that this old-fashioned system of government in power twisting laws to protect its interest is still in force, failing to realize that government come and go at a particular time.
To the old Bird who has witnessed many interest developments in this republic, has described running a government is just like acting a play on stage, when actors/actresses come to the stage at a particular time to play their part and then exit at another point.
It is no secret that, past and present governments are all guilty of that ugly situation, where they make laws to suit them at a particular time while in power.
But one lesson these bad leaders have still not learned is that the world over there will never be a permanent President, they will be voted or elected in power for a given period, forced out or resign for obvious reasons or sometimes when death strikes.
It’s against this backdrop that the wise and patriotic bird wants to strike a note of caution to leaders of his beloved country that in the process of making laws, they should always make sure that those laws reflect the will of the entire population to protect and give them equal rights.
Sadly though, it has the complete reverse over the years, where laws have been made to muzzle the opposition members little realizing that time and tide will change, when the much oppressed opposition will assume power at a particular point.
It’s against this background and against the backdrop giving equal rights to every citizen that the nationalistic bird is advising any government in power to be careful because things changes with time.
Bra Parrot’s continued and passionate plea to all governments is that they should not always make laws to suit themselves because everything is possible under the sun.
