The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) female Member of Parliament who doubles as the President of the ECOWAS female Caucus, Hon Veronica Kadie Sesay, has demanded the searching of police and military officers for kush, the deadly substance.
According to Hon Veronica Kadie Sesay, the security personnel who engage in hoarding or smoking kush substance should be receiving severe punishment.
She made the clarion call when debating on the approval of the state emergency in the chambers of parliament.
She maintained that as a nation they are losing potential ministers; doctors and members of parliament, adding that these youths are slowly dying.
She pointed out that many a times police are arresting containers and cartons containing kush but people are not seeing where these containers are kept.
Hon Sesay further that it is heart-rending to see youths perishing on the streets due to the intake of kush.
Hon Kadie Sesay furthered that smoking human bones is dangerous, adding that the those police and military officers arrested with kush should be given life imprisonment and they must receive get consequences as per law.
In his statement, the Deputy leader of Government business one in Parliament, Hon Bashiru Silikie, has also lambasted the state security sector for condoning drug intake in the country.
According to Hon Silikie, police officers are involved in the drug intake and that it is very important that the police force is entirely disciplined for allowing the mess.
He pointed out that within the 90 days of the State of emergency parliament will also have to invite the police and the law enforcement agency including the judiciary for status report.
He alleged that police officers are part of the ghettos.
The APC MP from Karene District has also called on the law enforcement agency to go after the suppliers.
Hon Abdul Karim Kamara has maintained that Kush has entered every village in Sierra Leone, adding that most of those involved are within the age brackets 14 and 35.
He further said that 16 students are being recently expelled out of the University of Makeni, in connection to kush smoking.
He asked for swift response to protecting our national issues and that there should be a total involvement of communities in the fight.
