If it all goes as enshrined in the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party constitution, the it’s now barely a month left for the 2018/2023 party standard bearer Dr. Samura Wilson Kamara to hand over the leadership of the party until another person is elected for next presidential election.
But will he hand over this is a question that has continued to bother the baffled Bra Parrot.
This situation has prompted the wise bird to continue to turn the pages of the All People’s Congress (APC) party’s National Constitution of 2021, to know the provision it makes with regards the leadership of the party.
Bra Parrot was very quick to turn to page 32 of the constitution, which says; in ‘Article 53 of the party’s constitution which clearly indicates about the “National ‘Leadership’.
That the person elected by the National Delegates’ Conference as the party’s Presidential Candidate/Flagbearer shall be its National Leader and shall maintain such position if he is elected President of Sierra Leone but shall relinquish such position if not elected.
Where the Flagbearer fails to be elected President of Sierra Leone he shall relinquish the position of National Leader SIX months after the final declaration of results notwithstanding any petition filed in the Supreme Court or pursuant to any Law; and such position shall remain vacant until another election for the party’s Presidential Candidate is conducted pursuant to the constitution.
(e In the event where the office of the National Chairman becomes vacant by reason of death, physical or mental incapacity, resignation or any other reason, the Deputy National Chairman shall immediately assume office as National Chairman for the unexpired term of the National Chairman.
The question the wise bird is asking now is will Dr. Samura go willingly or force to continue in office as against the provision in the constitution?
The wise bird is just thinking aloud as to what will happen in the event Dr. Samura refuses to go. Could it be a good or bad precedent?
But Bra Parrot is of the firm conviction that, Dr. Samura being a respectable politician and statesman can respect the party’s constitution in the interest of the party and Sierra Leone in general.
