The Deputy Speaker of Parliament who doubles as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, has warned officials from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to stop responding to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)’s summons.
Hon. Tawa Conteh says the ACC has no mandate to look into the Auditor General’s Report. He says parliament reserves the right to do so.
Hon. Tawa Conteh made the submissions on Thursday 27th June, 2024 at the New Administrative Building in Parliament at the hearing of Guma Valley Water Company (GVWC) as the water company was updating the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The Speaker said Parliament only has the constitutional right to probe into the Audit Reports.
Howver, the Deputy Manager at Guma Valley Water Company Ing. Price Moore Sourie furnished the names of Ministeries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that owed the government of Sierra Leone, a whooping sum of Twenty -Seven Billion Leones (Le27,000,000,000).
Mr. Sourie called out the following MDAs which include: Ministry of Defence (MOD), Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE), Bank of Sierra Leone (BSL) and among others, saying they had not been paying water bills to Guma Company over the years.
Responding to claims, Hon. Tawa Conteh ordered the Director of Guma Valley, Ing. Moore Sourie to start installing the prepaid meters at the the various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), excepting the Ola During Children’s Hospital and other government hospitals.
It was also discovered that National Fire Force (NFF) is owing the company some huge money running into millions of leones.
The previous Auditor General’s Report had revealed that the condition of most water stores were very poor especially those in the east and west of Freetown and the one in Mile 38.
